Château de Coulaine Chinon blanc Sinople 2022

Château de Coulaine Chinon blanc Sinople is a barrel-fermented Chenin Blanc from one of the oldest estates in Chinon.

Chinon is known above all for Cabernet Franc, but the appellation also allows white wine from Chenin Blanc, which accounts for a very small share of the vineyard. Château de Coulaine has been held by the same family since the fifteenth century and lies north of the Vienne on clay-limestone slopes, farmed organically for decades by Etienne and Pascale Bonnaventure. Sinople comes from vines of more than thirty years and is fermented in barrel, which broadens the texture of a grape that can be severe when raised only in tank, without covering the limestone-driven acidity underneath. Elevage is unhurried and the wine is bottled with little handling.

A textured but dry white; serve at 11 to 12 degrees with roast chicken, pork or river fish in butter.
