Château de Fieuzal Rouge 2022

Château de Fieuzal Rouge is a red Bordeaux from Pessac-Leognan, a classified growth of the Graves on the gravel soils just outside the city.

Fieuzal lies in the commune of Leognan, within Pessac-Leognan, the appellation created in 1987 to cover the gravel soils immediately south and west of Bordeaux. This is the oldest wine growing part of Bordeaux and the only district in the region with a classification covering both red and white wine, drawn up for the Graves in the 1950s. The deep gravel here drains freely and holds warmth, which is what allows Cabernet to ripen so close to the city. Fieuzal was among the properties classified as a Cru Classe de Graves for its red wine in the 1950s. The blend is built on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a little Petit Verdot, fermented parcel by parcel and matured in French oak barrels for a year and a half or thereabouts before bottling.

Decant and serve at 16 to 18 degrees with lamb, beef or hard cheese; it drinks well after five years and keeps for considerably longer.
