Château de Haute-Serre Cahors 'Lucter' 2022

Château de Haute-Serre Cahors 'Lucter' is a powerful, structured expression of Malbec from one of Cahors' most storied estates.

The Haute-Serre vineyard dates to medieval times, when it was tended by monks from a nearby abbey, before phylloxera devastated the site in the late nineteenth century and left it abandoned. Georges Vigouroux recognised the plateau's potential when the Cahors appellation was created in 1971, replanting the vineyard and producing its first modern vintage in 1975. Perched at around 300 metres on a high limestone causse with iron-rich, clay-limestone soil, the estate is now run by Bertrand-Gabriel Vigouroux with an emphasis on biodiversity and sustainable farming.

This is a deeply coloured, age-worthy Cahors red, well suited to roast and grilled meats, and hearty, slow-cooked dishes.
