Château de La Chaize Brouilly 2023

Château de La Chaize Brouilly comes from the largest of the ten Beaujolais crus and from one of the most recognisable estates in the region.

Chateau de la Chaize is one of the landmarks of the Beaujolais, a seventeenth century house on the slopes of Brouilly with a barrel cellar running the length of the building. The estate has been substantially renovated in recent years and its vineyards converted to organic farming. Gamay is grown here on granite soils and fermented whole bunch in the semi carbonic manner that gives the region's reds their lift. Brouilly spreads around the base of Mont Brouilly across six communes and is the biggest cru by area, with soils ranging from granite to older volcanic rock. Cru Beaujolais is bottled under its own village name and held to lower yields; the best examples age far better than the region's reputation for early drinking suggests.

Serve lightly chilled at around 14 to 15 degrees with charcuterie, roast pork or grilled meats; it is enjoyable on release and will hold for several years.
