Château de La Chaize Brouilly Lieu-dit Combiliaty 2022

Château de La Chaize Brouilly Lieu-dit Combiliaty is a single-parcel Gamay from Brouilly, the largest of the ten Beaujolais crus, gathered around the hill of Mont Brouilly.

Château de La Chaize sits at Odenas, at the foot of Mont Brouilly, and is among the most recognisable estates in Beaujolais. The château was built in the 1670s for François de la Chaize d'Aix, whose brother was confessor to Louis XIV; the architecture is attributed to Jules Hardouin-Mansart and the formal gardens to André Le Nôtre, and the property is a listed historic monument. Since the Gruy family took it over in 2017 the vineyard has been reworked parcel by parcel and farmed organically, with the better sites vinified separately. Combiliaty is one of those named plots, picked and fermented on its own rather than blended into the estate cuvée.

A classic match for charcuterie, roast chicken and washed-rind cheeses; serve it lightly chilled, at around 14 to 15 degrees.
