Description
Château de La Chaize Morgon is a Gamay from Morgon, the Beaujolais cru whose crumbling schist gives the region's firmest and longest-lived reds.
Morgon takes its character from the Côte du Py, a hill of decomposed schist and volcanic rock that growers call roche pourrie, or rotten rock. Wines grown on it are the sturdiest in Beaujolais, and morgonner entered local usage as a verb for the way they mature towards something closer to Burgundy than to Gamay's usual lightness. Château de La Chaize is based a little to the south at Odenas, in Brouilly, where its seventeenth century château and long vaulted cellar are among the most photographed sights in the region. The Gruy family took over in 2017 and farms organically, vinifying each cru separately.
Best with braised beef, coq au vin or hard cheese; it is worth cellaring for five years or more, and takes a slight chill well.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
