Château de la Tour Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Cuvée Classique 2023

Château de la Tour Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Cuvée Classique comes from the largest single holding inside the walls of Burgundy's most famous walled vineyard.

The Clos de Vougeot was assembled by the Cistercian monks of Cîteaux from the twelfth century onwards and enclosed by the stone wall that still defines it. At a little over fifty hectares it is now split between some eighty owners, which makes Château de la Tour's holding of roughly five and a half hectares exceptional; the estate is also the only one with a winery standing inside the clos itself. Run by the Labet family, it farms organically and is known for fermenting with a high proportion of whole bunches, stems included, a traditional Burgundian method that adds structure and helps the wine age. The Cuvée Classique is the principal bottling, drawn from across the estate's parcels.

A wine for game, beef and mature cheese, it repays a decade or more in the cellar; in which it ages more slowly again.
