Description
Château de la Tour Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Hommage à Jean Morin is made only from the first bunch on the first shoot of each vine in a parcel planted in 1910.
Clos de Vougeot is the largest grand cru of the Côte de Nuits and is divided among some eighty owners; Château de la Tour holds the single biggest share and is the only estate with a winery inside the walls. This cuvée, named for François Labet’s grandfather, comes from the same century-old vines as the Vieilles Vignes bottling, but the selection is far narrower. Only the first bunch on the first shoot is picked, on the reasoning that these bunches, furthest from the apical bud and closest to the trunk, are smaller and give more intensely flavoured juice. Whatever weight one gives the theory, the wine is consistently distinct from the Vieilles Vignes: more floral, more expressive, more red-fruited. It was first made in 2010 to mark the centenary of the plot and is now released only when the estate judges the vintage worthy.
Best cellared eight years or more and capable of thirty. Serve at 16-18°C with roast game, beef Wellington or an aged Époisses.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
