Château de la Tour Grand Cru Clos Vougeot Vieilles Vignes 2021

Château de la Tour Grand Cru Clos Vougeot Vieilles Vignes is made from the oldest vines in the Clos, most of them planted in 1910.

Château de la Tour is the largest single owner in Clos de Vougeot and the only producer with a cellar inside the walls. This cuvée is a selection from the best plots mid-slope, in the heart of the vineyard, with a minimum vine age of seventy years; many of the oldest vines carry only a few bunches each, and that concentration gives a Clos de Vougeot of unusual intensity, breadth and structural power. A few Pinot Beurot vines, the local name for Pinot Gris, are interplanted among the Pinot Noir and are picked and fermented with it, as was once common across the Côte. Fermentation runs with 50 per cent whole bunches and the wine is raised in 50 per cent new oak, making it a deeper and more powerful wine than the Cuvée Classique.

A wine for the long haul, best from ten years and lasting decades. Serve at 16-18°C with roast venison, beef with truffle or aged Comté.
