Château de Pibarnon Bandol Rosé 2024

Château de Pibarnon Bandol Rosé is a Mourvèdre-dominant rosé from one of the highest vineyards in the appellation.

Bandol lies on the Mediterranean coast east of Marseille and is the one French appellation where Mourvèdre must lead the blend, in rosé as well as in red. Pibarnon’s is 65 per cent Mourvèdre with 35 per cent Cinsault, drawn from old, low-yielding vines on the amphitheatre of terraces that wraps the pine-covered Colline du Télégraphe. At around 300 metres it is among Bandol’s highest sites, and altitude combined with sea breezes keeps the nights cool. The soil is the estate’s defining feature: les marnes bleues, an uncommon, highly chalky blue-tinted clay rich in microfossils, also found in the Jura and at Pomerol and valued for its low pH, its water-retaining capacity and its effect on freshness and structure. The wine matured for six months in neutral oak. The estate is certified organic.

Drink within about two years of release. Serve at 10-12°C with bouillabaisse, grilled prawns or a salade niçoise.
