Château des Laurets Saint-Émilion 1.5L MAGNUM 2018

Château des Laurets Saint-Émilion 1.5L MAGNUM is a Merlot-led Right Bank red in large format, from a big single estate in the Saint-Émilion satellites.

Puisseguin and Montagne, the hillside communes just north-east of Saint-Émilion, share a clay and limestone plateau, and this property straddles the two with one large block of vines around the château. The Edmond de Rothschild family has owned it since the early 2000s and put serious money into vineyard and cellar. Merlot dominates, suited to the cool clay, with Cabernet Franc adding lift. Parcels are picked and vinified separately, then matured in a mix of barrels and vats so the oak stays in check.

Expect dark plums, a supple medium body and a savoury grip on the finish. Big bottles age more slowly, so there's no rush to open it. When you do, pour at 16–18°C alongside lamb, duck or roast beef.
