Château des Laurets Saint-Émilion 2018

Château des Laurets Saint-Émilion is a medium-bodied Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend from the Right Bank, made for drinking over the medium term.

The late Baron Benjamin de Rothschild bought this estate, and it remains part of the family's wine group, which spent heavily on the vines and the cellar. It is one of the larger properties on the limestone plateau east of the town, its vineyard crossing into Puisseguin and Montagne. Clay and limestone soils favour Merlot, which makes up most of the plantings. Each parcel goes into its own temperature-controlled vat before blending and ageing in barrel, some of it new.

Plum fruit, fine tannin and a dry, earthy finish, with real substance for the price and a few good years ahead. Decant for an hour if you're opening it now, then serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, beef casserole or hard cheese.
