Château des Quarts Pouilly-Fuissé Clos Quarts 2023

Château des Quarts Pouilly-Fuissé Clos Quarts is a Chardonnay from a walled vineyard at Chaintré, in the southern Mâconnais.

Pouilly-Fuissé covers four communes beneath the limestone escarpments of Solutré and Vergisson, and has long been the Mâconnais' most serious white wine appellation. In 2020 twenty two climats were promoted to premier cru, formal recognition of what growers had understood for generations, and Les Quarts at Chaintré is among them. The Clos des Quarts is a walled parcel within that climat, held in single ownership; it was acquired in 2012 by the Mâconnais grower Olivier Merlin together with Dominique Lafon of Meursault, who farm it and make the wine between them. The soils are clay over limestone, and the wine is fermented and raised in barrel.

Serve it at around 12 degrees with roast chicken, scallops or a firm goat's cheese; it will develop in bottle for five years and more.
