Description
Château des Tourettes Vin de France Tinus Grand Blanc Chardonnay is Jean-Marie Guffens' top Chardonnay from a limestone plateau in the Luberon.
Jean-Marie Guffens, best known for Verget and Guffens-Heynen in the Mâconnais, has farmed in the Luberon for decades and treats this single plot of Chardonnay on the l'Aigle terroir as his southern grand cru. The limestone plateau gives fruit of real intensity while holding acidity, and Guffens is convinced the site can produce ageworthy whites, which is why the wine is released with bottle age already behind it. Conscious of the natural richness the south provides, he vinifies only the purest and tensest free-run juice. Ageing is deliberately restrained: eight months in barrel, a quarter of it new, followed by a further ten months in concrete vat on fine lees. The wine is broad and mouth-filling, with nutty complexity and a smoky edge, but the acidity holds the shape.
Drinking beautifully now. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, veal in cream or a firm cheese such as Comté.
