Description
Château des Tourettes Tinus Grand Blanc Plateau de l’Aigle is a single-plot Chardonnay from a limestone plateau in the Luberon, released under the Vin de France label.
Château des Tourettes is Jean-Marie Guffens’ southern estate, the counterpart to his Mâconnais operation, and the l’Aigle terroir is the plateau he reserves for his most serious white. The limestone here is the key to it: at altitude and on thin, calcareous ground, the Chardonnay keeps an intensity and freshness that the Luberon does not always deliver. Knowing how much natural richness and density the site gives, Guffens vinified only the purest and naturally tense free-run juice for this cuvée and left the pressings out. Ageing was deliberately split — eight months in barrel, of which a quarter were new, then a further ten months in concrete vats on fine lees. The result is a broad, structured white built to age, and the estate holds it back before release rather than shipping it young.
Drinking now and capable of five to eight years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, bouillabaisse or a wedge of aged Beaufort.
