Description

Tinus Marsanne is a varietal white from Château des Tourettes, Jean-Marie Guffens' estate in the Luberon, released only in years that suit the grape.

The Luberon sits at the eastern edge of Provence, where the southern Rhône's white varieties are grown at altitude on chalky soils. Guffens made his name in the Mâconnais and now spends more of his time at Tourettes, which is also the family home, with Julian Desplans running the Burgundian side. The range has been narrowed and the wines have gained refinement as a result. Marsanne here is grown on high, chalky ground, which keeps acidity in a warm climate, and the wine is bottled under the Vin de France designation rather than the local appellation. Burgundian handling in the cellar gives a medium-bodied white of textured generosity, with grapefruit, citrus blossom and a stony, savoury edge.

Drink over the next four to five years, with roast chicken, grilled vegetables or a herb-crusted fish, at 10 to 12°C.
