Description
Tinus Rouge d'une Nuit is a bistro red from Jean-Marie Guffens, made by leaving Syrah and Cabernet overnight on the pressed skins of old-vine Grenache.
Guffens is best known for his Mâconnais wines under the Verget and Guffens-Heynen labels, but he also runs Château des Tourettes in the south of France. This wine is bottled as Vin de France rather than under an appellation, which allows a method few others use: a blend of Syrah and Cabernet is run onto the marc left after dry-pressing old-vine Grenache and left there for a single night, taking on colour, fruit and a little structure from the skins. The name records that one-night stay. Ageing is in concrete tank, which preserves freshness and leaves no wood character on the wine. The result is vividly fruited and peppery, with red berry flavour and a thirst-quenching, poppy-seed close, and it is built for the table rather than the cellar.
Drink over the next two or three years, lightly chilled at around 16°C, with charcuterie, grilled sausages or a tomato-based pasta.
