Description
Château des Tourettes Tinus Syrah is a concrete-raised southern Syrah from Jean-Marie Guffens’ Luberon estate, bottled as Vin de France.
Guffens made his name in the Mâconnais, and as he has stepped back from Burgundy — where Julien Desplans now runs the day-to-day — he has given more of his attention to the Provençal property that is also the family home. The range has been streamlined and the wines have gained in refinement as a result. What the estate offers is southern fruit and southern warmth handled with Burgundian technique, and this Syrah is a straightforward demonstration of it. There is no oak: the wine is raised in concrete, which keeps the fruit forward and the texture supple. Red berries and cherry lead into a silky, vibrant palate with very fine tannins and a core of freshness that stops short of being austere. It is an unfussy wine and it is priced as one.
Ready now and good for three or four years. Serve at 16-18°C, lightly cooled if the weather is warm, with grilled lamb, ratatouille or a pepper-crusted steak.
