Château du Cèdre Cahors Château 375ml 2022

Château du Cèdre Cahors Château is the estate's principal Malbec bottling, grown on the gravel and limestone terraces above the river Lot.

Cahors is the historic home of Malbec, known locally as Cot or Auxerrois, and was making dark, tannic wine from it long before the grape reached Argentina. Château du Cèdre lies at Vire-sur-Lot on the third terrace of the valley, where deep gravel over clay and limestone sits well back and well above the river. Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe took the property on from their father and have farmed it organically for well over a decade, working with low yields, hand harvesting and long macerations. The Château cuvée is built around Malbec with small proportions of Merlot and Tannat, fermented in temperature controlled vats and raised partly in barrel and partly in tank so that fruit and structure stay in balance.

Dark and firmly structured but not austere, it goes with confit duck, cassoulet and grilled red meat; serve at around 17 degrees.
