Description
Château du Cèdre Les Grèzes Blanc is a Bordeaux-varietied white from the Lot valley, half Sauvignon Blanc with Sémillon and a little Muscadelle.
Cahors lies on the river Lot upstream of Bordeaux and is the historic home of Malbec, known locally as Côt or Auxerrois. Château du Cèdre is at Vire-sur-Lot at the warm western end of the valley, where the Verhaeghe family farm around thirty certified organic hectares split between the gravel terraces above the river and the limestone causse of the plateau above. Work there is parcel by parcel, with ambient yeast, long macerations and a light hand with sulphur. Grèzes is the local word for the stony ground of the river terraces, and this white is released under IGP Côtes du Lot, the regional appellation covering varieties Cahors itself does not allow. The blend is 50 per cent Sauvignon Blanc, 40 per cent Sémillon and 10 per cent Muscadelle.
Dry and mid-weight, with Sauvignon's cut and Sémillon's texture, it suits shellfish, terrines and goat's cheese; serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
