Château d'Yquem 1er Grand Cru Classé Supérieur en 1855 in magnum is a rare large-format bottling of the greatest name in Sauternes.

For centuries the Lur-Saluces family guided this property, which has been part of the LVMH group since 1999. Its reputation rests on painstaking selection: the harvest is carried out in successive passes through the vineyard, and only botrytis-affected grapes at the right concentration are kept. The blend is mostly Sémillon with a smaller share of Sauvignon Blanc, fermented barrel by barrel in new oak and then aged in the estate's cellars. The château calls 2023 a dream vintage, perfectly balanced. Magnums of Yquem are produced in small numbers and mature more slowly than standard bottles.

This is a bottle to lay down for a milestone birthday or anniversary, as it should keep evolving for half a century or longer. When opened, serve it cool with foie gras, roast poultry, Roquefort or an apricot tart.
