Château Ferran Rouge 2022

Château Ferran Rouge is a Merlot-led red Bordeaux from a family estate in Martillac, in the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

Owned by the same family since 1880 and now passing to its fifth generation, this property lies south of the city of Bordeaux in the commune of Martillac, where vines have been grown since the eighteenth century. The vineyard covers a little under 22 hectares on clay and limestone soils, most of it planted to red varieties, with Merlot in the lead supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The family farms without herbicides and the estate has held the French HVE environmental certification since 2018. The wine is made in a supple, fruit-forward style with firm tannins and a velvety texture, and it drinks well from a few years of age.

Open it an hour ahead, or give it a quick decant, and serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. Roast lamb, duck breast, grilled steak or a mushroom tart are all good matches. It is ready to enjoy now and should hold comfortably for eight to ten years.
