Château Filhot 2ème Grand Cru Classé en 1855 2007

Château Filhot is a Second Growth Sauternes from one of the largest estates in the appellation.

The property lies at the southern end of Sauternes, where an eighteenth-century château stands within extensive parkland and woods. Classified as a Deuxième Cru in 1855, it has been owned by the de Vaucelles family for many decades. Its vineyard, on gravel and sand over clay, is planted to Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and a little Muscadelle, and Filhot has traditionally used a higher share of Sauvignon Blanc than many neighbours, giving a fresh, aromatic style. Grapes are picked by hand in successive passes as botrytis develops. 2007 was a particularly good year for Sauternes, with a fine autumn after a difficult summer.

Serve chilled, at around 10 degrees, with pâté, blue cheese or an apricot tart. With plenty of bottle age behind it, it's drinking nicely now and will continue to hold.
