Château Gazin 2022

Château Gazin is one of the largest estates in Pomerol, sitting on the eastern edge of the plateau directly alongside Pétrus.

At around twenty four hectares Gazin is a giant by Pomerol standards, where most properties are counted in single figures and a few in hectares you could walk across in a minute. It has belonged to the de Bailliencourt family for a very long time, and in 1969 it sold a parcel of its land to the neighbouring Pétrus, which says a good deal about where the vineyard sits. Merlot makes up the great majority of the plantings on the clay and gravel of the plateau, with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Pomerol has never been classified, and Gazin's standing rests on a long record rather than a ranking.

Decant and serve at around 17 degrees with beef, duck or game; it is approachable at around eight years and will hold for two decades.
