Description
Château Grand Mayne is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé on the western side of the appellation, a Merlot-led wine from a long-established property.
The estate lies west of the town of Saint-Émilion, where the limestone côtes fall away to clay and sand at the foot of the slope. It has been run by the Nony family for several generations. Its rank of Grand Cru Classé places it in the tier below the Premiers Grands Crus Classés under Saint-Émilion's classification, which is unusual in Bordeaux for being revised roughly every decade rather than fixed in perpetuity. Merlot dominates the planting with Cabernet Franc in support, a combination well suited to the cooler clay soils, and the wine is vinified at the château and matured in French oak barriques.
Good with roast beef, duck or mushroom dishes, served at 16 to 18 degrees and given an hour in a decanter while young.
