Château Guiraud 1er Grand Cru Classé en 1855 Sauternes 375ml 2020

Château Guiraud Sauternes is a Premier Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, here in a handy half bottle.

The château sits in the heart of Sauternes, close to Château d'Yquem, on gravel and sandy-clay soils ideal for noble rot. Autumn mists rising from the Ciron river encourage botrytis, which concentrates the sugars and flavours in the Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Pickers pass through the vineyard several times, selecting only the berries that are ready. The estate is also known as a pioneer of organic farming among the classified Sauternes estates. The 2020 is noted for its tension and purity, with fresh botrytis, spice, quince and apricot on a silky palate.

Serve it well chilled, at around 8 to 10 degrees. Classic pairings are foie gras, Roquefort and other blue cheeses, or a stone fruit tart. It is delicious young and will develop for decades in the cellar.
