Château Guiraud Grand Vin Blanc Sec 2022

Château Guiraud Grand Vin Blanc Sec is the most ambitious of the dry whites made at a First Growth of Sauternes, from vines otherwise given over to the estate's famous sweet wine.

Dry whites from Sauternes are made from grapes picked early and healthy, before botrytis arrives, and are labelled under the Bordeaux Blanc appellation because the Sauternes name applies only to sweet wine. Guiraud was classified Premier Cru Classé in 1855, sits on high ground near the village and farms organically, having been among the first classified estates in Bordeaux to be certified. This cuvée is the top dry selection, drawn from favoured parcels of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc and given a longer and more careful élevage than the house's regular dry white. It belongs to a small but growing group of serious dry wines from Sauternes producers.

Serve at 10 to 12 degrees with roast chicken, scallops or richer fish dishes.
