Château Laballe Bas Armagnac 2500ml 1992

Château Laballe Bas Armagnac in this bottling comes from a single cask, Pièce n°A2-5, and is 100% Ugni Blanc, in a 2.5-litre format.

Château Laballe lies at Parleboscq, in the Bas Armagnac, where the Landes forest meets the vineyards of Gascony. The Laudet family bought the domaine in 1820 and now farms it in its eighth generation. Aged Armagnac from here is bottled cask by cask rather than blended to a consistent profile, so each release carries the character of its own barrel and season. The wine is distilled in the domaine's 1923 wood-fired copper still, and the spirit is then matured in Chêne Noir Gascon, 410-litre barrels coopered from oak grown in the neighbouring Landes forest; the thick grain of that wood gives the tannin and spice that mark the house style. No colour is added at any point, and bottling is brut de fût, unfiltered and at natural cask strength.

The 2.5-litre bottle is made for sharing over a long evening; serve neat at room temperature with dark chocolate, walnuts or a plate of hard cheese.
