Château Laballe Bas Armagnac Gold 21 years 500ml

Château Laballe Bas Armagnac Gold 21 years is the oldest wine in the domaine's 3-12-21 range, with a minimum of 21 years in cask.

Laballe's 3-12-21 collection is built on age rather than vintage, and Gold sits at the top of it. The spirit is distilled from estate fruit in the domaine's wood-fired copper still and matured in 410-litre barrels of Chêne Noir Gascon, coopered from oak of the nearby Landes forest, whose thick grain gives up its tannin and spice slowly. Every component carries at least 21 years in wood, and over half the blend comes from stocks more than 30 years old, which is where the depth and the spicy weight originate. It is powerful and elegant at once, a hallmark of the older Laballe bottlings, with the layered, fleshy mouthfeel that only long cask ageing produces. As with the vintage releases, no colour is added.

A digestif above all, served neat at room temperature after dinner, and a match for dark chocolate, dried figs or a strong hard cheese.
