Description
Description
Château Labégorce is a substantial Margaux property on the plateau north of the village, sharing a boundary with Château Margaux.
The gravel croupes of Margaux are shallower and finer than those further north in the Médoc, which is why the commune's wines are built on perfume and texture rather than mass. Labégorce sits on that plateau in a single stretch of vineyard, and its modern history turns on the Perrodo family, who bought the property and later brought the neighbouring Labégorce-Zédé back into the same estate after more than two centuries apart. The combined vineyard is farmed parcel by parcel, picked by hand and fermented in vats matched to those parcels before the blend is assembled. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot take roughly equal shares, seasoned with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and the wine spends around a year and a half in barrel.
Medium-bodied, fragrant and finely tannic, it suits lamb, roast poultry and mushroom dishes; serve at around 17 degrees.
