Château Labégorce Margaux 375ml 2019

Château Labégorce is a Margaux estate on the plateau north of the village whose vineyard runs right up against the boundary of Château Margaux, offered here in half bottle.

The gravel croupes of Margaux are shallower and finer than those further north in the Médoc, which is why the commune's wines are built on perfume and texture rather than sheer mass. Labégorce sits on that plateau in one continuous stretch of vineyard, and its modern history turns on the Perrodo family, who bought the property and later brought the neighbouring Labégorce-Zédé back into the same estate after more than two centuries apart. The vineyard is farmed and picked parcel by parcel and fermented in vats matched to those parcels before the blend is assembled. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot take roughly equal shares, seasoned with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and the wine spends around eighteen months in barrel.

Medium-bodied, fragrant and finely tannic, it suits lamb, roast poultry and mushroom dishes; serve at around 17 degrees, and note that a half bottle matures faster than the standard format.
