Description
Château Lacoste Borie Pauillac is the second wine of Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, one of the fifth growths of Pauillac.
Grand-Puy-Lacoste stands inland from the Gironde on a gravel plateau in the south west of the commune, the puy, or hill, of its name. The Borie family, also of Ducru-Beaucaillou in Saint-Julien, took the estate in 1978 and it is run today by François-Xavier Borie, who gave this wine the family name. It is drawn from the younger vines and the vats not selected for the grand vin, made in the same cellar by the same team, with Cabernet Sauvignon at its core, Merlot filling out the blend and a little Cabernet Franc. Ageing is in barrel, with a modest proportion of new oak.
It comes round earlier than the grand vin and suits roast beef, lamb or hard cheese; serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted for an hour. Bottles will nonetheless keep a decade without trouble.
