Description
Château Lafaurie Peyraguey, 1er G.C.C, 1855 is a first growth of Sauternes, made at Bommes from grapes shrivelled by noble rot.
Sauternes owes its existence to the Ciron, a cold spring fed stream that meets the warmer Garonne and throws up autumn mists; the damp mornings and bright afternoons that follow encourage Botrytis cinerea to concentrate the sugars in the fruit. Lafaurie Peyraguey lies on the slopes of Bommes, one of the five communes of the appellation, and was placed among the first growths when Sauternes was classified in 1855. Sémillon leads the planting, supported by Sauvignon Blanc. Pickers pass through the rows again and again over several weeks, taking only the berries that are ready, and the wine is fermented and raised in oak.
Serve well chilled at about 8 degrees with foie gras, Roquefort or a fruit dessert. And the wine will age for decades.
