Description
Château Lafon-Rochet, 4ème G.C.C, 1855 is a fourth growth of Saint-Estèphe, its bright yellow château one of the landmarks of the northern Médoc.
The estate sits on a gravel rise on the border with Pauillac, with Cos d'Estournel on one side and the vines of Lafite across the way, which makes it one of the best placed properties in the commune. Saint-Estèphe has more clay in its subsoil than its southern neighbours, holding water in dry summers, and the blend accordingly carries a good share of Merlot alongside Cabernet Sauvignon. The Tesseron family bought the run down property in 1959 and rebuilt vineyard, cellars and château over the following decades; ownership changed again in 2021.
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast lamb, beef or game, decanting young bottles well ahead. And matures a little faster than a full bottle.
