Château Lafon-Rochet 4ème Grand Cru Classé en 1855 2016

Château Lafon-Rochet is a Fourth Growth Saint-Estèphe, easily spotted by its bright yellow château.

Classified in 1855, the estate lies on the gravel ridge that runs along the border between Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac, next door to Cos d'Estournel. When Guy Tesseron bought the property in 1960 the vineyard and buildings needed major work, and the family spent the following decades replanting and rebuilding. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels. 2016 was an outstanding year in the Médoc, with a dry summer and cool nights, and this vintage has remarkable strength and length along with plenty of elegance.

Decant for an hour and serve at 17 to 18 degrees. Rack of lamb, beef bourguignon or aged Comté are ideal. It's approaching a good drinking window now but will continue to improve for years.
