Château Lafon-Rochet 4ème Grand Cru Classé en 1855 2018

Château Lafon-Rochet is a classified Saint-Estèphe from the gravel slopes bordering Pauillac.

This Fourth Growth was restored by the Tesseron family, who acquired it in 1960 and later gave the château its striking yellow colour. The vineyard lies close to Cos d'Estournel and within sight of Lafite Rothschild, on deep gravel with clay beneath that holds water through dry summers. The blend brings together Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, matured in oak. 2018 was a warm, generous year across Bordeaux, and the wine has an expressive, fresh nose of blackcurrant, strawberry and raspberry, a clean attack with spreading tannins and a fine structure, and a hint of cinnamon on the finish.

For drinking now, open it an hour ahead and serve around 17 degrees with a peppered steak or slow-roasted pork shoulder. Otherwise, lay it down for another five to ten years.
