Château Lafon-Rochet 4ème Grand Cru Classé en 1855 2019

Château Lafon-Rochet is a Saint-Estèphe Grand Cru Classé with a long history in the northern Médoc.

The estate's history goes back several centuries, and it was ranked a Fourth Growth in the 1855 classification. Its modern era began with the Tesseron family, who rebuilt the château and replanted the vineyards on the gravel and clay soils beside Cos d'Estournel. Cabernet Sauvignon gives the backbone and Merlot the flesh, while small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot add aromatic lift and spice. 2019 was a sunny, dry year, and the wine has an elegant nose of blackcurrant, cherry, pepper, liquorice and truffle, a balanced palate with airy tannins and a dense structure, and a long, saline finish.

Serve at around 17 degrees. It's a fine partner for duck confit, lamb shanks or a wild mushroom tart, and a short decant will bring out its aromatics. Cellar it for a decade or more if you prefer.
