Château Lafon-Rochet 4ème Grand Cru Classé en 1855 2022

Château Lafon-Rochet is a Saint-Estèphe classified growth, and this vintage is concentrated, powerful and built to age.

The château's yellow walls mark one of Saint-Estèphe's Fourth Growths, with a vineyard of gravel over clay near the Pauillac border. Its modern reputation was built by the Tesseron family, who invested heavily in replanting after 1960. In 2022, a hot and dry year across Bordeaux, the blend is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, aged in oak. The wine is full-bodied, with dark fruit and spice, earthy graphite and tobacco, and fine tannins, and while it's made for long ageing it also has an approachable side.

Patience will be rewarded: cellar for at least five years, then decant and serve at around 18 degrees alongside a rib of beef, venison or a hearty cassoulet.
