Château Lanessan, Cru Bourgeois Supérieur 2016

Château Lanessan, Cru Bourgeois Supérieur is a Haut-Médoc from Cussac-Fort-Médoc, its vines running up to the southern boundary of Saint-Julien.

The Haut-Médoc appellation covers the good land that falls outside the six communal appellations, and Lanessan is one of its better known names, sitting on gravel croupes that continue directly from the classified vineyards next door. The estate has been in the same family since the end of the eighteenth century, an unusually long tenure in Bordeaux, and its stables house a collection of nineteenth century carriages and harness that is open to visitors. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend with Merlot and Petit Verdot, and the wine is matured in oak. Cru Bourgeois Supérieur is the middle of the three tiers set out in the 2020 revision of that classification.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast beef, lamb or a steak and kidney pie, decanting younger bottles an hour ahead.
