Description

Château Langoa Barton, 33ème Grand Cru Classé En 1855 is a classified growth of Saint-Julien and the home of one of Bordeaux's oldest family estates.

Saint-Julien is the smallest of the great Médoc communal appellations and the most consistent, its gravel banks sloping gently to the Gironde. Langoa was bought in 1821 by Hugh Barton, an Irish merchant whose family had settled in Bordeaux the century before, and it has stayed with his descendants ever since, one of the longest unbroken ownerships in the region. Barton also acquired a portion of the neighbouring Léoville estate a few years later, and both wines are still made in the cellars beneath the Langoa château. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend with Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc, and the wine is matured in French oak barrels.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast lamb, beef or game birds, decanting young bottles an hour or two ahead. It is drinkable earlier than many classified growths but will hold for fifteen years and more.
