Château Lascombes La Côte 2022

Château Lascombes La Côte is a single-site Merlot from the Margaux Second Growth, released for the first time with this vintage.

Ranked a Second Growth in 1855, the estate is one of the larger properties in Margaux. La Côte comes from four neighbouring plots totalling around four and a half hectares, surrounded by Cabernet Sauvignon vines belonging to Château Margaux. The site has clay over an outcrop of relatively pure limestone, with veins of blue clay, a combination that suits Merlot and helps keep acidity fresh. The wine was introduced by winemaker Axel Heinz, formerly of Ornellaia and Masseto, who joined the estate in 2022. It has an intense, youthful colour, ripe fruit with sweet spice, a dense, velvety texture and juicy, saline acidity.

Serve at around 16 to 17 degrees. Merlot of this weight is lovely with roast duck, veal or a porcini risotto. It can be enjoyed now after a decant, or cellared for a decade or more.
