Description
Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry, 3eme G.C.C, 1855 is a Margaux third growth whose double-barrelled name records two of its early owners.
Simon Malescot, a magistrate of the Bordeaux parliament, acquired the property in the seventeenth century, and Count Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry added the second half of the name in the nineteenth. The Zuger family has owned the estate since the middle of the twentieth century, and its parcels are scattered around the commune rather than gathered in a single block, including plots close to the village of Margaux itself. Margaux is the southernmost of the Médoc's famous communes, with the lightest and stoniest gravel, which is usually credited with the perfume and finer frame of its wines. The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and a little Petit Verdot, aged in French oak.
It suits lamb, duck or a simply roasted rib of beef, and young bottles are the better for an hour in a decanter.
