Description
Château Margaux, 1ème G.C.C, 1855 is a Médoc first growth and the estate from which the surrounding appellation takes its name.
Margaux lies at the southern end of the Médoc, where the gravel is at its palest and deepest, and the wines of the commune are traditionally described as the most finely drawn on the Left Bank. The estate was ranked among the first growths in 1855, and its neoclassical château, finished in 1815, has become the emblem of the region. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the vineyard, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, with a plot of Sauvignon Blanc kept for the white wine, Pavillon Blanc. Under the Mentzelopoulos family, owners since 1977, the property has been steadily rebuilt, most visibly with the barrel hall completed in 2015.
It is a wine for roast lamb, beef or game birds; decant young bottles, and give the finest vintages many years in a cool cellar.
