Description
Description
Château Maucamps is a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Haut-Médoc from Macau, on the gravel where the appellation meets Margaux.
Macau lies on the southern edge of the Haut-Médoc, immediately south of Margaux, and Château Maucamps occupies a gravel rise over clay and limestone within sight of the Gironde estuary. The estuary moderates temperature and reduces the frost risk, while the gravel drains hard and pushes the roots deep. The property has been held by the same family for generations and carries Cru Bourgeois Supérieur status, the upper tier of the reformed classification. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot share the blend in roughly equal measure, with a small proportion of Petit Verdot; the fruit is hand sorted, fermented in temperature-controlled vats and the wine is matured in oak barrel before bottling.
A traditional, cedar-toned claret for roast lamb, steak and mature hard cheese; serve at around 17 degrees.
