Château Mauvesin Barton 2022

Château Mauvesin Barton is a Moulis-en-Médoc estate taken on by the Barton family, owners of Léoville and Langoa Barton in Saint-Julien.

The Bartons bought Mauvesin in 2011 and added their name to it, extending an association with the Médoc that began in the 1820s. Moulis is one of the two inland communes of the Haut-Médoc with an appellation of their own, set back from the Gironde on a mix of gravel and clay-limestone. It is the smallest of the Médoc's communal appellations and holds no classified growths, which has long made it a hunting ground for value. The blend here is led by Merlot, reflecting the heavier soils, with Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Cabernet Franc, and the wine is made by the same team that runs the family's classified estates.

It is a good match for grilled meat, roast chicken or a mushroom risotto, and drinks well within a few years of release.
