Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015

Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a Grenache-led red from one of the most thoroughly pebbled sites in the appellation.

The Mont-Redon estate occupies the high plateau on the north western side of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where galets roulés cover red clay to a considerable depth and the exposed position keeps the fruit cooler than the sheltered parcels nearer the village. With close to a hundred hectares under vine inside the appellation the property is among the largest in Châteauneuf, and the Abeille and Fabre families who own it also farm in Lirac and the Côtes du Rhône. The blend is led by Grenache and completed by Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. There is no new barrique here: élevage passes in concrete vats and large old oak foudres, which is why mature bottles from the estate show savoury depth rather than wood.

A mature release, drinking now with roast and braised meats, game and hard mountain cheeses; decant briefly and serve at around 17 degrees.
