Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2022

Chateau Mont-Redon Chateauneuf-du-Pape is the classic red from one of the largest and longest established estates in the appellation.

Mont-Redon takes its name from the rounded hill on the north western side of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, where the plateau is covered in the thick bed of galets roules, the smooth quartzite pebbles left by the ancient Rhone, over red clay and sand. The property is among the biggest in the appellation and has been in the Abeille and Fabre families for generations. The blend is led by Grenache with Syrah and Mourvedre making up most of the balance and Cinsault and other permitted varieties in small proportion. Fruit is hand harvested and largely destemmed, fermented in tank and then aged in a mix of large foudre and smaller barrel before assembly and bottling.

Broad, warm and classically structured, it suits roast lamb, game, daube and mature cheeses, and rewards cellaring; serve at around 17 degrees.
