Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2023

Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is the estate's white from the high plateau, released under a centenary label marking a hundred years of family ownership.

Château Mont-Redon is one of the largest single properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, around a hundred hectares on the high plateau north west of the village where the ground is carpeted in galets roulés, the rounded quartzite stones left by the ice ages. The Abeille-Fabre family has run it since 1923. White Châteauneuf is a small part of the appellation's production and Mont-Redon is among the properties that have kept it central. The blend is 50 per cent Grenache Blanc, 30 per cent Clairette and 20 per cent Picpoul and other permitted varieties, drawn from parcels chosen for their ability to hold acidity on a site that bakes in summer. This release carries the estate's hundredth anniversary label, a century on from the family's arrival.

Broad, dry and long, it suits roast chicken, richer fish, veal and hard cheeses, and will also take a few years in bottle; serve at around 11 degrees.
