Description
Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Le Plateau is the estate's white parcel selection, Grenache Blanc led in this release.
Château Mont-Redon is one of the largest single properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, around a hundred hectares on the high plateau north west of the village where the ground is carpeted in galets roulés, the rounded quartzite stones left by the ice ages. The Abeille-Fabre family has run it since 1923. Le Plateau comes from the plateau itself, where the covering of galets roulés is deepest and the vines root through the stones into clay beneath. Unlike the estate's standard white it uses only two varieties, and the proportions move with the season: this release is 65 per cent Grenache Blanc and 35 per cent Clairette, Grenache Blanc bringing the weight and Clairette the acidity that holds it up. Production is small.
Powerful, dry and built for the cellar, it suits lobster, veal, roast poultry and aged hard cheese; serve at around 12 degrees.
