Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Le Plateau 1.5L MAGNUM 2017

Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Le Plateau is a parcel selection from the high galet-covered plateau of the estate, presented in magnum in a wooden case.

Château Mont-Redon is one of the largest single properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, around a hundred hectares on the high plateau north west of the village where the ground is carpeted in galets roulés, the rounded quartzite stones carried down by the ancient Rhône. The Abeille-Fabre family has run it since 1923. The Le Plateau name refers to the plateau itself, where the covering of stones is deepest and the vines root down through it into red clay; the stones store the day's heat and the clay holds water through dry summers. Grenache is the backbone of red Châteauneuf here, with Syrah and Mourvèdre adding colour and structure, and the fruit is hand harvested. This bottle has already had several years of age, and the large format has kept its development slow.

Powerful and now showing some maturity, it suits roast lamb, game, truffled dishes and hard cheeses; decant and serve at around 17 degrees.
